Lawyers acting for family say meeting must be ‘without politicians and spin doctors’

Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US intelligence official who was involved in the road collision that killed 19-year-old Harry Dunn, has agreed to meet with his grieving parents and cooperate with a British police inquiry.

But amid ongoing questions over her right to diplomatic immunity, it is not clear if she will return to the UK to fulfil a promise to answer police questions about her role in the car crash.

Diplomatic immunity is the protection given under international and UK law to foreign diplomats and their families. It was formalised through the 1961 Vienna convention on diplomatic relations (VCDR). Reciprocal global agreements also protect UK diplomats working abroad.
